Paparazzi and Henri Paul blamed in Diana crash

The jury in the inquest into the death of Diana Princess of Wales have delivered a verdict of unlawful death. The findings returned by the jury after six months of proceedings and twenty three hours of deliberation amounted to a verdict of manslaughter. The full statement released by the jury was that grossly negligent driving caused by the impaired condition of the driver Henri Paul. The jury also found that the speed and driving of the Mercedes as well as that of the paparazzi photographers were “grossly criminally negligent” and contributory to the crash. The jury also found that the fact that neither Diana nor Dodi Fayed were wearing seatbelts resulted in their deaths. It was also suggested that the striking of a pillar was also a major contributory factor in the deaths of Henri Paul, Dodi Fayed and Diana Princess of Wales [Sky News / BBC / CNN]. Previous investigations into the actions of the paparazzi have dismissed their role in the crash and it is unlikely that there will be any future prosecutions.
