The leader of al Qaeda in Iraq has been arrested according to the Iraqi Defence Ministry. Abu Hamza al-Muhajir is said to have been arrested during a joint Iraqi-US operation in the northern city of Mosul. The news was reported on al-Arabiya TV late on Thursday. al-Muhajir is the successor to Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, who was killed by a US air attack in 2006 [al Jazeera / BBC / CNN].
